Examples of being Workaholic

In my 5 years of professional career, I have seen how we transform from a happy-go-lucky engineering guy into a professional person. But during this transition, I agree, we do earn lot of experience... but we knowingly or unknowingly become so much workaholic... that even we could not figure out at the end... what we are doing and what we are saying :D

Some funny examples for the same:

Swipe Card
After tiring work sessions at office, guy reaching home very late at night and taking office swipe card to open the door at home  :D
This is very common problem with those people whose offices are strictly protected by IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems) and every entry-exit in office is being recorded through swipe card... I am sure most of us had gone through this situation of swiping the card at unwanted places like the door at home  :D

Dial '9' before
Most of the offices offers calling on mobile phones from office's landline by dialling number '9' before the mobile number. People in support business often have habit to dial on cell phones of Customers via office landlines to get some information regarding support queries. One day one guy was at home, and was trying to dial his friend’s mobile number from the landline at house. He was dialling '9' first and then his friend’s number. After few mins.. (when he got pre-recorded error message tone from the instrument) He realised.. Boss.. I am not at office.. I can directly dial mobile number.. why I am pressing '9' before the cell#... :D

Right click and Right turn
One guy was working on UI related issue which included some RnD for right click event in excel. Spent two continuous days for this and most of the time he was doing right click.. right click and right click :D
Even after leaving from office, that right click issue was still in his head... When he got into the auto for his home, He asked autowala... "Bhaiya yahan se right click.. yahan se right click"... and not "Bhaiya yahan se right turn".. :D

See how much deep he was thinking about the issue that he did not realize the difference between “right click” and “right turn” :D

Status and Station
One day, a guy spent his complete working day in just creating status and status and giving updates... and on the same day when he left for the day, he got into bus. He had to take a ticket to "Mulund Station"... and He was overloaded with word "Status" that day... so you know what he asked to bus conductor? "Bhaiya ek Mulund Status dena".. :D
Poor guy.. that conductor gave very weird look for his query :D

U-turn and UI-turn
One day in auto (again), instead of saying U-turn, He said... UI turn... :D and that time he was working on UI applet side issue :D

Why the mouse pointer is not moving?
Most of the people have habit of keeping cell phone close to mouse... Sometimes... we take the cell phone in hand and forget the mouse.. then realise even after moving the thing in hand for so many times... why the hell mouse pointer is not moving ... then we realise ...array... mouse to pakda hi naahi hai :D

Damn!! where is the tissue paper?
I always look for tissue papres at the bottom of the eating plate even though tissue papers are not there ;) Actually in office lunch, we get one or two tissue papers supporting each lunch plate. Then the moment we finish the lunch we take out the tissue paper and clean up the things. But just imagine if you are taking food at home and guy is constantly searching for where are the tissue papers ? after finishing the lunch... then don't you think his mind is still in office canteen? ;)

Why the hell chair is not getting adjusted?
We have a habit of constantly adjusting the height of the office chair (As such office chairs are pretty expensive and comes up with various customisable options). Just imagine if you are seating on a very simple wooden chair and still trying to adjust its height and then getting sad why the chair is not listening to me? :D

Trying to unlock personal machine with office machine's credentials
We have a habbit of keeping same username on our office computer and personal computer. But we specifically keep passwords different. From the tiring office day, after you reach home and wanted to login to personal machine for checking some personal mails and stuff ;) and just imagine... we end up giving office machine's password and then we realise after 2-3 attempts that we are at home... office password will not work :D

For UNIX lovers
For those who love UNIX as if girl friend ;) ... such people, whenever they open command prompt on windows and want to check files in dir, I am sure they will be executing 'ls -ltr' on windows command prompt. :D After few fractions of secs, an error message pops up saying ''ls' is not recognized as an internal or external command'... ahaa... then we realise.. dude!! you are not on UNIX now :D

Fruits and best of technology giants
Being a software engineer, we are always fascinated about information of ever growing technical world. One day that software engineer goes to dietitian and the dietitian asks him... "What do you think of having Apple and Blank berry in diet?"... Software engineer responding .. " ohh yeah... both are good.. but one is for ultimate fun experience and other is strictly for business.. I will go for Samsung" :D :D :D

Height of humility
Very kind and soft spoken guy.. typing a love letter to girl friend with heading... "Respected madam,... " :D and ending the letter with "Thanks and Regards,"

Height of sincerity
A guy with above features, sending the love letter to girl friend & keeping her earlier boyfriend in "cc" list of the e-mail :D and telling him... FYI.. :D.. After the mail is sent, he will forward the copy of the e-mail to her parents saying "FYI & A" :D

Height of height
Such guy who always used to reach home late, suddenly, one day he reaches home so early than expected.

Reaction from watchman of his building: "Sir ji aap ko kabhi dekha naahi pehle.. Kis ke ghar jana hai?" :P

After convincing watchman that he stays in the same building since last 5 years,  then he moves into lift... Thinking about work, he doen not even press the floor button in the lift. Then after half a minute idle time, lift goes off with the power due to no activity... and then he realises that he has not yet pressed the upper floor button in the lift.. :D

After this, somehow he manages to reach the home and mom opens the door... first... for a minute she keeps recalling, is this my son?? then mom gets a surprise attack and in shouting tone she says... "OMG... what happened to you??? how come you are so early??? Is everything fine ??? You left the job kya??? :D and so on and so forth :D :D

My God... so these were some funny examples happened with me, with my friends...

So Friends.. at some point of time.. we should find a right balance between our professional and personal life.. else life will be as described above.. where we don't really realise where are we.. and what are we doning or saying..

So maintain that balance in life.... keep it simple silly :D

Don't just run behind the work... behind 'deal'lines... there are pretty other beautiful 'live' things in the world that we can try to explore... :D

  5. Mr Maverick...

I will tell you about those which are NOT first hand experiences.. Those 3 odds includes
    1. "Height of humility"
    2. "Height of sincerity"
    3. "Fruits and best of technology giants"

For first two... obviously... it was just imagination but had some background of day to day e-mail communication that we follow in office.. I just added love+fun elements to it :D
And BTW... one need to have someone special's email id to send such emails... and I don't have any such id.. :( so it was just a thought :D..

About dietician, comparison between fruits and giant cell phone brands... again this was fictitious.. But I liked to add it as I had visited dietician few months back and she had asked me about including Apples in morning breakfast. I gave a different shade to the discussion that happened with dietician which is there on blog :D

That’s it... But yes... rest of all are FIRST HAND experiences.. :D :D :D
